1. Misfiring or rough running of the engine occurs when there is incomplete combustion.

2. Ignition Timing: the ignition timing can be affected when the ignition control module is faulty.

3. The engine running low: the engine will not accelerate well and run at a low speed.

How to Bypass the Ignition Control Module

Bypassing the ignition control module is not simple but depends strictly on the car model. You will need some mechanical tools to enable you to bypass the ignition control module of your car. There are different methods through which you can bypass the ignition control of your vehicle, and they include:

1. Hotwiring

This method is suitable for older models of cars, and to do this, you need to identify your car’s steering wheel column first. Then, open the plastic cover that conceals the ignition wires inside. After which, you recognize the connector in most cars’ middle of the car steering column. However, this can be difficult due to the number of wires inside. The yellow and brown wires are for the ignition, while the red wires are related to the battery. Then twist the red wire that serves the battery and strip them down about one inch from the insulation.

To bypass this ignition control module, you have to connect the on/off ignition wire of the car with the wire which connects to the battery, which causes the car lights and electronics to come on. Then touch the starter wire to the wires connected to the battery to make the car engine start, bypassing the ignition control module and starting the engine.

2. Jump Start the Car

This method of bypassing the ignition control module is reserved for people familiar with the components under the hood well. It can be done using a portable jump starter or another vehicle to jump-start yours.

  • For this method, you must first identify the red coil wire to bypass the ignition control module.
  • The ignition coil and battery are located under the hood of your vehicle.
  • Connect the coil’s positive side to the car battery’s positive terminal.
  • The jump starter cable can also be connected to the coil. That way, the dashboard could get the power required for the engine’s ignition.
  • Locate the starter solenoid inside the steering wheel column and connect it to the car battery’s positive terminal.
  • Afterward, you will remove the ignition wire from the ignition control module.
  • Activate the solenoid and make the starter crank the car by connecting the solenoid’s positive terminal to where the ignition control switch is connected with a screwdriver.

3. The use of a Drill And Screwdriver

This method can damage the ignition control module. To do this, you must first locate the car’s keyhole and drill 2- 3 inches (depending on the length of your car key) into it using a metal drill. After which, you remove the locking bits till they are in position. Or you can insert your screwdriver into the keyhole and use your hammer to hit it until the ignition’s locking pins are broken. You can then insert a screwdriver into the keyhole and turn the ignition.

What is the ignition bypass wire?

The ignition bypass wire is a wire which prevents the ignition coil from sending power to the starter while running the engine.

Where does the ignition get power from?

Battery, which is part of the engine ignition system. This starts with the ignition coil, which gets power from the battery and turns it into a powerful spark to ignite fuel vapor.
